Just 18 months after replacing Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery has been releived of his coaching job by Arsenal
This is as a result of their 2-1 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League, which was their seventh outing as a team without a win.
Thursday’s defeat was the Emirate Club’s longest winless run in 27 years – since February 1992.
A statement released by the club’s management reveals that, Arsenal will be managed temporarily by the assistant and former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg. It was also stated that the decision to let Emery go had been “taken due to results and performances not being at the level required.”
“We have full confidence in Freddie to take us forward,” the club added in the statement.
“The search for a new head coach is under way and we will make a further announcement when that process is complete.”
Media reports revealed Unai Emery is the third managerial dismissal in the English top flight this season, after Javi Gracia and Mauricio Pochettino departed Watford and Tottenham respectively.
