Paris Saint Germain Crowned Ligue 1 Champions for 2019-2020

The France’s Ligue de Football
Professionnel have
announced Paris
Saint-Germain as the 2019-2020 Ligue 1 champions. However, the remainder of the
season has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.   
Speaking to the media, French prime minister
Eduardo Philippe reiterated : “Big sporting events will not be able to
take place before September. The 2019-20 season, notably for football, will not
be able to resume,”
At the Ligue 1 table, PSG held a 12-point gap
over their league rival and second place “Marseille” before the league season
was cancelled on March 13 2020.
This will be PSG
straight 3rd Ligue 1 title and seventh time they have gone atop of
the League table in the past eight years. The club now have nine top-flight
championships, which is one behind Marseille and Saint-Etienne for the all-time
record.
In the opening games of
the 2019-2020 league season, PSG lost two of their first seven games. However
ended the cancelled league with a 15 match unbeaten streak.
African-French striker Kylian Mbappe and Wissam
Ben Yedder both had aa joint top goal scorer with 18 goals during the league
season. While Argentina Midfielder Angel Di Maria was recorded to have more assists
(14) than anyone else in the league.
On the relegation saga, Amiens and Toulouse have
been relegated to Ligue 2, while Lorient and Lens automatically promoted to
Ligue 1.
Media reports revealed that Amiens have
announced their intention to proceed with a legal case over their premature
relegation from the top ligue1 division.
PSG, Marseille and Rennes will claim the
league’s Champions League spots for next season.
